Housing Authority Law

In his previous firm of Francis and Austin, Mr. Austin has represented housing authorities in relation to legal issues arising from public housing law, Section 8 vouchers and Hope VI grants. Mr. Austin has prosecuted hundreds of cases and hearings involving the termination of public housing leases and Section 8 vouchers. Mr. Austin is keenly aware of the various regulations promulgated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) that govern the operation and finances of the various housing authorities throughout North Carolina.

 

Mr. Austin has also assisted public housing authorities address financing issues, construction contracts and property management agreements. Not only do such contracts require familiarity with general construction law precepts, but it also requires knowledge of state and federal requirements relating to contracts and contract bidding.

 

Presently, Mr. Austin is a commissioner for the Housing Authority of the County of Wake and sits on the board for the non-profit corporation, Wake County Housing Finance Agency. He is also a member of the Carolinas Council of Housing Redevelopment & Code Officials (CCHRCO).

Mr. Austin works closely with clients on every aspect of the landlord-tenant relationship on residential and commercial matters. Common areas include lease drafting and review, eviction and hold-over issues, illegal evictions, breach of contract claims, landlord liens, subleases and assignments and collection actions.
